Place-des-Arts Station: A Submerged Overture
The Place-des-Arts metro station functions as a dramatic architectural airlock. Conceived by David, Boulva, and Clève, the platform acts as a submerged overture, orchestrating scale and shadow to prepare the commuter for the performance above ground. Rather than focusing on the surface texture of the glazed brick, we isolate the structural drama: the stark overhang of the mezzanine, the rigorous line of the railings, and the sculpted weight of the ceiling. This is not passive infrastructure; it is theatrical space. The lighting is deliberately moody, casting deep shadows that transition the traveler from the cacophony of the street to the focused hush of the auditorium.
